When pondering about the meaning of the word Ornatus, several definitions come to mind. Ornatus stems from the Latin verb ornare which means to decorate, to embellish, or to adorn. The owner and designer Alejandro Figueira has been able to bring these words and meaning to life through its breathtaking events, impeccable reputation and astounding experience. Figueira has embellished events in Venezuela since the year 2001 and is now in South Florida as well as Venezuela.
Figueira shared his insights with JW, telling us that he began this venture based on a vision of a selective, high-end style of event planning in which instead of just throwing in a beautiful decor or a theme, he would empathize and respect both the venue and the motif. In this sense, he said, “The type of flowers and atmosphere must be correlated strictly and empathetically with the necessity of the moment. What I mean is that the decor should be totally focused on the atmosphere of where the event will take place.” He is personally captivated by contemporary tendencies, where his talent lies in playing with lines, textures, colors, contrasts and even aromas, thus making unique creations for each event.
UNDERSTAND YOUR CLIENT
Alejandro Figueira also mentioned that Ornatus Event Décor seeks to deliver the exact effect that the customer desires for his guests, be it rambunctious fun or elegant relaxation. With an avant-garde style, his team interprets the end product the client wants, and then makes the suggestions on how to achieve it. An example he shared was in a spring wedding in Miami, in which a perfect match was made between the landscape and atmosphere by inviting the guests to a main lounge area within a manicured lawn, securely covered in transparent tents through which they could see the sky, but under a coincidental light spring rain that added a refreshing ecological effect to the soiree as guests watched a cascade flow over them while pleasantly tasting assorted hors d’oeuvres, all synergistically blending with the lush ambience.

TYPES OF EVENTS
Of course weddings are a favorite, but Alejandro Figueira admitted having a soft spot for corporate events because they pose an artistic challenge due to the diverse crowds they entertain, both in Caracas and Miami. He explains, “Corporate events are very fun to elaborate because they require creative ideas, materials and concepts to always be ahead of the competition, be it a company party to entertain personnel or a highly-publicized product launching where all eyes are going to be on the brand.”
When the event is in an intimate venue or a home, the area is the most important aspect to consider. As an example, Alejandro Figueira mentioned that in a recent wedding in Venezuela, the inside of a home with ample gardens was decorated with tall vases filled with lilies and candles, which reflected the ambience of the external setting. Additionally, clear tables and chairs were set to allow the stunning garden to be appreciated gracefully. The bar area was set to create an aura of peace, with white furniture that allowed the green plants to stand out. As this event transgressed into the night, lighting was green, simultaneously captivating the essence of the garden. Following this decor, as guests were transposed to the garden lounge, all details perfectly blended with nature. The wooden floor emulated soil, olive green tablecloths created a sense of a lavish garden, and the seating offered a peaceful creation. According to Alejandro Figueira, this is the perfect example of the correlation between decoration and place that Ornatus seeks.
AH, LES FLEURS
When it comes to deciding on the perfect bouquet, Ornatus Event Décor seeks to take the approach one step further. This means that Alejandro Figuiera personalizes every step. For instance, when creating the perfect bouquet for a bride, he considers intricate factors, such as the bride’s preferred flowers, skin color, eye color, height, style of dress, even if she is allergic to certain types of pollen, to avoid sneezing on such a special day. This deepness of detail is what he considers that sets him apart.
Alejandro Figueira, president and founder of Ornatus Event Décor enthusiastically states, “G-d is my inspiration at all times. He has blessed my art with unthinkable opportunities, both in my native Caracas, Venezuela and here in Miami, Florida, and I have never let him down. I am also highly motivated by my clients, since they put their most cherished moments in my hands, providing me with the opportunity to image, create and materialize their dreams into a successful event.”
