Reinventing a resort requires extensive knowledge of the location, amenities and its past. Paying homage to its inception in 1958 and thanks to a $100 million transformation, The Diplomat, one of the city’s classic social hubs, continues to attract guests for numerous types of gatherings including weddings, Wizo’s Kosher Food & Wine, bar-bat mitzvahs as well as corporate celebrations, among others.

Its location, which entails direct access to the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, has become an appreciated point in the event world. The resort’s renovation includes reimagined guestrooms, a revamped spa, over 10 new culinary concepts, as well as indoor and outdoor public spaces for event gatherings.

Hailing this redesign, the hotel’s Managing Director Shai Zelering said, “We are excited to introduce a revolutionary way to vacation through the introduction of the newly redesigned Diplomat Beach Resort. We’re creating a destination for all travelers, offering unparalleled experiences through a variety of activities, dining destinations and spaces meant for celebrations.” This resort is part of Curio, a collection by Hilton of luxury hotels hand-picked for their unique character and upscale approach to hospitality.

Interior design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates devised the massive in-room renovation which encompasses two design schemes inspired by “Sunrise” and “Sunset.” While Sunrise offers vibrant designs with earthy tones, Sunset designs are subtler with an organic design scheme. Owning the other experiential components of the grand makeover, Leo Daly has transformed the lobby, outdoor bar, Canteen Market, Diplomat Prime Steakhouse, Portico Beer Garden, and will additionally be the architect of record for Geoffrey Zakarian’s Point Royal and Michael Schulson’s Monkitail restaurants.

This resort boasts 209,000 square feet of entertainment space. There are four ballrooms, and the 20,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The outdoor special event areas include the pool deck and lounge spaces. Its unique Kosher offerings include deliciously adaptable cuisines, with its own Kosher Kitchen and Kosher Catering menus that are personalized to taste and served with thoughtful presentation.

When it comes to events, The Diplomat Beach Resort prides itself on building close relationships with couples in order to reflect their individual styles and tastes. The objective is to imprint their personalities into their events, to make them genuine and completely customized.

A recent wedding hosted at this resort exemplified the uniqueness of the couple and their interests, complemented by The Diplomat’s expertise. The theme of this wedding was “Tropical Elegance.” Most of the guests attending the wedding came from out of town, and the reason they chose The Diplomat Beach Resort was to give the guests a weekend vacation and a chance to experience all the resort amenities including the spa as well as the cabanas by the pool and beach. The couple knew from the beginning that they wanted to celebrate their love and share a longer time with their guests through a full wedding-weekend in a resort rather than simply celebrate their wedding night, in which couples barely have time to share with all their guests who have come from far away.

The couple wanted to reflect the destination in the décor, but tie in the elegance of the location as well.  The chuppah was charmingly adorned with bamboos for the columns and foundation. Green succulents, orchids and peach colored roses adorned the ceremony, which overlooked the Atlantic Ocean. Romance was all around when listening to the couple say “Ani le Dodi Ve Dodi Li” through the whisper of the ocean’s waves.

As the ceremony culminated, guests were invited into the Grand Ballroom. Details throughout the night commemorated the couple’s style, including seashells and starfish shells which adorned the menu and tableware. Elevated candles further added romance to this soiree. Ocean-blue colored linens inspired elegance in this black tie affair. In this laidback beach theme wedding, dancing shoes were offered for guests to feel comfortable and blissful. With ample space for dancing and celebrating, this wedding exemplified sophistication with a tropical flair.

Celebrations are opportunities to gather friends and family who sometimes live far away, so the extended events such as the weekend-weddings that The Diplomat Beach Resort offers, give families and friends the opportunity to actually share besides celebrate a rite, and all in an iconic style.
