As a young boy growing up in Le Touquet, an elegant vacation resort in France, Cedric DuPont started collecting antiques. When he was just seven years old, his parents, who were antiques dealers, loaned him a small amount of money which he invested in their inventory. Whatever profit that was made on a piece that sold in any of their galleries, he quickly reinvested.

“I thought this was a pot of gold,” Cedric remembers of those early days before his family moved to Palm Beach. “I put all of my birthday and holiday money into this pot. I had an appreciation for quality antique pieces even then and bought what I could afford.”

Today, Cedric has custom designed a two-story, 20,000-square-foot gallery in the heart of W. Palm Beach’s famous Antique Row. He created the gallery, which resembles a French chateau, to surround the collection in the proper setting. He designed a space where his clients can see everything they would want in their home under one roof, from chandeliers and buffets, to mirrors, tables, seating and accessories. “Clients with a limited amount of time can find everything under one roof, seeing all of the pieces together before making a decision to purchase,” says Cedric.

Since there are fewer antiques dealers in the North East, many designers fly down with their clients from New York, Boston and all over Connecticut. They want to see, feel and imagine how these beautiful pieces would look in their homes. And if the client still has trouble imagining how a vignette would look, Cedric can photoshop their choices into interior images that they provide to make it more visible for them. He calls it “see it in your home.”

The popularity of his gallery has been overwhelming. Cedric DuPont Antiques and its collection of important 18th and 19th century French, Italian and Continental antique furniture and accessories is growing so fast that he is now renovating another large building to accommodate the overflow.

And recently, Cedric has been busy buying more Italian antiques to meet the needs of clients who own Mediterranean style homes. These buyers expect quality and one-of-a-kind pieces complete with a fascinating history and pedigree. “When I hear of an important European estate being sold, I hop on the next flight to see what treasures I can find,” he says.

If any restoration is required while maintaining the integrity of the pieces, he employs professional European craftsmen with the experience and savoir faire to restore them properly. He knows they will enlist the appropriate techniques which means only using European products and doing things the old fashioned way.

“The collaboration between our private clients, designers and our team has allowed us to maintain a positive relationship over the years,” says Cedric, who is proud that his company was honored for the past three years with the Five Diamond Award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences.

For those who want to sneak a peek online, go to Cedric’s website www.cedricdupontantiques.com where most of the inventory is displayed. He receives more than 40 new arrivals each month so the growing inventory will keep a browser busy. This is one of the reasons that about 80 percent of his items are sold and shipped out of state.

Yet he thrives on the personal interaction in his business.“I love buying, restoring and selling, and I always meet the most incredible people,” he says. “It becomes a growing friendship. Since I hand pick each item myself from private estate sales, I pass on the savings directly to my clients. I love the entire process.”
