Entrepreneur Jonathan Mandelblum has personified the rapid success of an immigrant, fulfilling a much needed gap for tourists. He was once a tourist in South Florida, where he experienced and noticed certain necessities. He realized there had to be an easier way through the car rental process, one which offered peace of mind from start to finish.
JW: WHAT IS THE VISION THAT LED YOU TO CREATE YOUR COMPANY?
JONATHAN: It happened five years ago after a very tiring flight at an airport that did not have a car rental lot inside airport premises. I realized that daily, thousands of people go through what I was going through. I truly wanted to avoid the typical car rental process, where the family many times has to wait for a bus outside the airport, and once this family arrives at the car rental place, they then need to make a long line to finally wait for a car that had previously been reserved. So the idea that sparked Ontrac was to offer a car rental service that made things much easier, personal, friendly and on top of that… with competitive pricing. If my clients want the car at the airport, it will be waiting for them there or anywhere else they want it.
I offer clients a direct person-to-person service. This allows the client to pick up the phone or chat and get all questions answered from start to finish, without having to wait in a long queue. The customer service representative is also there to offer advice, asking the client how many passengers they need to fit in the car, what services they are interested in and how they can save money. This is just like a private banker, where you have an advisor to offer relevant and personalized advice just for you.
Therefore, my vision has been centered on offering hassle-free, friendly, and affordable rental solutions. Nowadays, I have 500 cars with 20 employees at 3 locations, with over 2,000 rental agreements per month.
JW: WHAT IS ONTRAC MAGAZINE AND HOW DID THIS INNOVATIVE IDEA GET STARTED?
JONATHAN: I realized that there is a whole assortment of needs when traveling, and that most people rely on friends or travel pages to satisfy them. Whenever you spread the word that you’re going somewhere and that you need something, there’s always a friend who has some contact, referral or recommendation, and sometimes he even gets you a discount because he knows the owner, right? Well, we want to be one of those friends too, and we do that through Ontrac Magazine. The magazine is actually a compilation of coupons that are offered to my clients, free of charge of course, as a way of providing a helping hand. It suggests where to eat, where to shop, even who’s a good realtor if you’re moving to South Florida. It offers our best contacts and with discount coupons included, just like what a trustworthy friend would do for you.
JW: YOU ALSO CREATED A TRAVEL-PACKAGE WEBSITE FOR YOUR LATIN AMERICAN CLIENTS. DON’T YOU THINK YOU HAVE YOUR FINGERS IN TOO MANY PIES?
JONATHAN: Hahaha…not at all, not at all. Everything is related, interconnected; all my projects complement each other, offering a cohesive approach. The website is Vacacionescontodo.com, which in English means something like “full vacations,” that I created with the objective of making travel-planning easy and more affordable for my fellow Latin Americans. There, I offer nicely priced and family friendly deals throughout South Florida. I had noticed that many companies in Latin America offered luring travel packages, yet with a lot of fine print. That’s being tricky in a way. For me, superior customer value goes hand in hand along with trustworthiness. So in what I offer there are no additional fees or “conditions;” what you see is what you get. Easy! As a result of our honesty and straightforwardness, Vacacionescontodo.com has had excellent reviews from our Latin-American customers such as Brazilians, Venezuelans, Panamanians, Mexicans, among others who have given us the opportunity to make their vacations hassle-free. That’s why I created Ontrac Magazine and Vacacionescontodo.com after creating Ontrac Rent-a-Car, to make a one-stop-shop that includes the car, hotels, tours and even live entertainment. To sum it up, we offer what I would like if I were the customer: new and comfortable quality cars, quality hotels, and deals from meticulously selected companies, like what a friend would recommend. So as you see, instead of many pies, I see it as one large pie which I cut into perfect pieces for the ease of my customers.
